HCAN: Billionaires Reduced to Turning Truth on its Head With ‘Fear Mongering’ About Impact of the Affordable Care Act
Washington, DC – Here is a statement from Ethan Rome, executive director of Health Care for America Now, on the television ad, to be aired this week by the Koch brothers’ front group Americans for Prosperity, containing a misleading and deceptive attack on the Affordable Care Act:
“The new television ad set to air around the country this week by the billionaire Koch brothers and their front group Americans for Prosperity is not going to let truth stand in the way of their attack on the health care law. This ad is fear mongering at its worst, using half-truths, partisan speculation and falsehoods to mislead the American people about a law that will reduce costs and improve the quality of care for families, seniors and businesses.
“What the Koch brothers and Americans for Prosperity don’t say in the ad is that they want to repeal Obamacare, putting the insurance companies back in charge of your health care and letting them deny benefits and jack up your rates whenever they want. The Affordable Care Act bans insurance companies from charging you more, denying your care or dropping you from coverage because of pre-existing conditions, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma. In fact, the Obamacare ban on discrimination against people with a history of health conditions is specifically designed to protect folks like the woman in the ad and her family from predatory insurance companies. That’s what makes this ad preposterous and shameful, which is standard operating procedure for the Koch brothers and Americans for Prosperity.”
